More signs of hope from my mother's garden

I love it when the lilacs burst open and I am always sad when the leaves fall and flutter away too soon. The distinct perfume fades and that brief bit of spring is over. Before all that, there is the happy anticipation of how beautiful the back of my parents' yard will look and smell when it is all purple and pretty.

I love lilacs so much. The very first time I ever really encountered them in bloom was on a choir tour in college. We did a concert in Cape Cod and when we stepped off the bus I was overwhelmed by the smell in the air. The family we stayed with that night had pitchers full of lilacs in every room. It was the best sleep I've ever had. I keep lilac candles in every room of my house in springtime. :)
